A water-tight dishwasher with an even reveal on both sides
Most dishwasher problems trace back to a unit that wasn't leveled, wasn't anchored, or was shoved into a bay it didn't fit. We hook up the water and drain right, secure the unit so it doesn't walk, and adjust the cabinet when the opening fights back.
- Every connection pressure-checked before we leave
- Air gap or high loop set to local code
- Tub leveled both ways with a level on the rails
A dishwasher bay is one of the least forgiving spots in a kitchen: a fixed 24-inch width, a water line, a drain, and an electrical feed all crowded into a space under the counter. New units run wider in the door, taller in the tub, and panel-ready models add a custom front that has to line up with the cabinets on either side. We connect the supply and drain, set the air gap or high loop the way local code wants, level the unit on all four feet, and anchor it so the door doesn't tip the whole machine forward. When the bay is too wide or a hair too tight, we fix that too.
The problems we actually solve
The bay is wider than the dishwasher
A 24-inch unit in a 25-inch bay leaves a gap that collects crumbs and lets the machine rock. We add and scribe filler strips on one or both sides so the unit sits centered and tight.
It rocks, walks, or tips when you open the door
A dishwasher that wasn't leveled or anchored slides forward on a heavy cycle and tips when the loaded rack rolls out. We level all four feet and secure the unit to the counter or side cabinet so it stays put.
The old unit is still hooked up
Disconnecting the previous dishwasher means shutting off water, draining the line, and pulling the drain and power without flooding the cabinet. We handle the demo so the new install starts on a clean, dry footing.
Dishwasher Installation, done properly
Disconnect & remove the old unit
Water shut off, supply and drain disconnected, power isolated, and the old dishwasher pulled out without dragging grit across the floor or leaving a puddle in the cabinet.
Connect water & drain
Supply line tied in at the valve with a fresh fitting, drain hose routed to the disposer or standpipe, and every joint pressure-checked so the first cycle runs dry underneath.
Set the air gap or high loop
Drain looped high under the counter or run to an air gap at the sink, whichever the local code calls for, so dirty sink water can't siphon back into the tub.
Level & secure the unit
Front and rear feet adjusted with a level until the tub reads true both ways, then the unit anchored to the underside of the counter or the side cabinet so it can't tip or creep forward.
Close side gaps or trim a tight bay
Filler strips cut and scribed when the bay runs wide; the opening eased back to spec when it runs tight — so the dishwasher sits centered with an even reveal on both sides.
Align panels on integrated units
On panel-ready and fully integrated dishwashers, we hang the custom door panel, set its weight and spring tension, and align the reveal so the front sits flush with the doors beside it.
What we account for
-
Drain routing decides the layout
Whether the drain ties into a disposer, a sink tailpiece, or a dedicated standpipe changes the hose run and the air gap choice. We confirm what's behind the cabinet before committing to a route.
-
Counter material affects how it mounts
Wood and laminate counters take a top bracket screwed into the underside; stone and quartz don't, so those units mount with side brackets to the adjacent cabinets. We pick the method the countertop allows.
-
Door swing and panel weight on integrated models
A custom front adds pounds to the door, and the hinge springs have to be tuned to match. Get it wrong and the door drops or slams. We set the tension to the panel actually on the unit.
The supply, drain, and reveal handled together
The hardest part of a dishwasher swap isn't the hookup — it's the hand-off between the supply line, the drain and air gap, and the cabinet opening they all share. Get the plumbing tied in but leave a one-sided reveal where the bay runs wide, and the machine rocks and the front looks crooked next to the cabinets. We tie in the water and drain, set the air gap or high loop to code, and in the same visit scribe filler strips to close an uneven side gap or hang and align an integrated panel. One crew owns both the water-tight connection and a clean, even reveal, so nothing is left for a follow-up.
See how cabinet modification worksFrom measurement to a clean, level fit
- 01
Assess & measure
We start with the appliance spec sheet and the opening it has to live in — width, depth, height, the face frame, utilities, and the cabinet around it. Most fit problems are decided here, before a single tool comes out.
- 02
Protect the kitchen
Floors, countertops, and finished cabinet faces get covered, padded, and taped off first. Blue tape on the edges, moving blankets and ram board on the floor, and a vacuum staged for dust control.
- 03
Install & fit the cabinet
We set the appliance — and when it does not drop in clean, we modify the cabinet to make it: resizing the opening, building a support platform, adding filler strips, or aligning panels and trim for an even reveal.
- 04
Level, test & clean
The appliance is leveled, secured, and anti-tip hardware set where it belongs. We test operation, check every reveal and gap, then vacuum and wipe down so the kitchen is ready to use.

What dishwasher installation typically costs
A flat $89 service call covers coming out and assessing the job against your appliance spec. Project pricing starts from the figures shown and is confirmed on site — cabinet work has a lot of variables, so we quote it exactly once we see the space.
Dishwasher Installation: common questions
Do I need an air gap or is a high loop enough?
It depends on local code. Some jurisdictions in the South Bay and on the Peninsula require an air gap at the sink; others accept a high loop under the counter. We set whichever your code calls for so the install passes and dirty water can't back-siphon into the tub.
Can you install a panel-ready or fully integrated dishwasher?
Yes. Integrated units from brands like Bosch, Miele, and Thermador take a custom front that has to be hung, balanced, and reveal-aligned with the cabinets beside it. We mount the panel, tune the hinge springs to its weight, and set the gaps even on both sides.
My new dishwasher doesn't fit the old opening — can you still install it?
Usually, yes. If the bay is wider than the unit we add scribed filler strips so it sits centered; if it's a hair too tight we ease the opening back to spec. That cabinet work happens on the same visit as the hookup.
Will you take away my old dishwasher?
We disconnect and pull the old unit as part of the install and move it out of the way. If you want it hauled off entirely, mention it when you call us to schedule and we'll plan for it.
Why does my dishwasher tip forward when I pull the rack out?
It was never anchored. A dishwasher has to be secured to the counter or the side cabinet so the weight of a loaded rack can't tip it. We level all four feet and mount the unit so it stays planted through a full cycle.
Dishwasher Installation — what homeowners say
Installed my new dishwasher in under an hour. The old one had a weird fitting issue and they worked through it without charging extra. Honest and fast.
Our new KitchenAid dishwasher required some cabinet trimming to fit properly. The installer handled it like it was nothing. Great attitude and skilled hands.
Quick and efficient. Installed a countertop microwave mount and a new dishwasher back to back. Brought all the hardware needed. No extra trip to Home Depot required.
Replaced my old dishwasher with a Miele. The tech knew exactly what he was doing with European appliances — proper drain setup, air gap, the whole thing. Rare to find this level of knowledge.
Arrived early, called ahead to confirm, set up my dishwasher in 45 minutes. The price matched what was quoted. I have nothing negative to say.
Had three appliances installed in one visit — range, hood, and dishwasher. All done in about 2.5 hours. Efficient team, professional finish.
